Douglas County was created on November 1, 1861 and was created as one of the 17 original counties of the Territory of Colorado . The county was named for Stephen Arnold Douglas. The county seat is Castle Rock .
Douglas County is bordered by Jefferson County (west), Arapahoe County (north), Elbert County (east), El Paso County ( southeast), Teller County (south).
