Canyon County was created on March 7, 1891 and was formed from Ada County. The county was named for a canyon of the Boise River . The county seat is Caldwell.
Canyon County is bordered by Payette County (north), Gem County (northeast), Ada County (east), Owyhee County (south), Malheur County, Oregon (west).
