Elmore County was created on February 7, 1889 and was formed from Alturas County . The county was named for Ida Elmore mines, locally noted for gold and silver production in the 1860s. The county seat is Mountain Home.
Elmore County is bordered by Boise County (north), Ada County (west), Owyhee County (south), Twin Falls County, Gooding County (east), Camas County (east), Blaine County (northeast).
