
Bell County, 112th county in order of formation, lies in the southeastern section of Kentucky. It was created on August 1, 1867, from portions of Knox and Harlan counties, and has an area of 361 square miles. It was named for Kentucky congressman Joshua Fry Bell, who worked in the legislature for the creation of the county, which was originally called Josh Bell County. The county seat is PINEVILLE.
