
Grant County, the sixty-seventh county established in Kentucky, was created in 1820 from the western part of Pendleton County. Covering 259 square miles in the north-central portion of the state, Grant County is almost square in shape and has an average elevation of 1,000 feet above sea level. The land is mostly rolling plains, with few hilly areas. The eastern part of the county is watered and drained by tributaries of the Licking River; the western portion, by tributaries of the Kentucky River. WILLIAMSTOWN is the county seat.
