
Henry County, Kentucky's thirty-third, was formed in 1798 from part of Shelby County. Some of its original territory was later carved into Oldham and Trimble counties, which border it, along with Franklin, Carroll, Owen, and Shelby counties. Located in the north-central portion of the state, in the outer Bluegrass region, Henry County covers 289 square miles. NEW CASTLE, the county seat. The Kentucky River forms the boundary between Henry and Owen counties, and many small creeks and streams water and drain the area.
