Henry County, Kentucky's thirty-third, was formed in 1798 from part of Shelby County. Some of its original territory was later carved into Oldham and Trimble counties, which border it, along with Franklin, Carroll, Owen, and Shelby counties. Located in the north-central portion of the state, in the outer Bluegrass region, Henry County covers 289 square miles. NEW CASTLE, the county seat. The Kentucky River forms the boundary between Henry and Owen counties, and many small creeks and streams water and drain the area.

The population was 10,910 in 1970; 12,740 in 1980; and 12,823 in 1990. The Official County Government Website is located at http://henrycountygov.com/.
