Logan County, Kentucky

Logan County, the thirteenth county in order of formation, is located in the Pennyroyal region of western Kentucky. At its formation from Lincoln County on September 1, 1792, it ran from the Little Barren River on the east to the Mississippi River on the west and from the Ohio and Green rivers on the north to Tennessee on the south. Twenty-eight additional counties were formed wholly or in part from Logan. It was named after Gen. Benjamin Logan, a Virginian who came to the Kentucky frontier in 1774 and participated in several campaigns against the Indians. The county seat is RUSSELLVILLE.

The population was 21,793 in 1970; 24,138 in 1980; and 24,416 in 1990. The Official County Government Website is located at http://www.logancounty.ky.gov/.
