Marion County, Kentucky

The eighty-fourth county in order of formation, Marion County is located in central Kentucky. Marion was formed from Washington County on January 25, 1834, and was named in honor of Gen. Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" of the Revolutionary War who won fame for his military tactics against the British forces in the southern theater of operations. The county seat of Marion County is LEBANON.

The population of Marion County was 16,714 in 1970; 17,910 in 1980; and 16,499 in 1990. The Official County Government Website is located at http://www.marioncounty.ky.gov/.
