Marshall County, Kentucky

Marshall County, the ninety-second county in order of formation, located in the extreme western region of Kentucky. The county was once part of the Chickasaw Indian lands acquired in the Jackson Purchase of October 19, 1818. From 1818 to 1822, the area that is now Marshall County was part of Hickman County; from 1822 to 1842 it was the northern part of Calloway County. On June 1, 1842, Marshall County was created and named for John Marshall, chief justice of the United States. BENTON was established at a central location as the county seat.

The population of the rural county was 20,381 in 1970; 25,637 in 1980; and 27,205 in 1990. The Official County Government Website is located at http://www.marshallcounty.net/.
