Owen County, the sixty-third county in order of formation, is located in north-central Kentucky. Owen County was formed from sections of Scott, Franklin, Gallatin and Pendleton counties on February 6, 1819, and was named in honor of Col. Abraham Owen, Indian fighter and Kentucky legislator, who was killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe. The county seat is OWENTON.

The population of Owen County was 7,470 in 1970; 8,924 in 1980; and 9,035 in 1990. The Official County Government Website is located at http://www.owencounty.ky.gov/.
