
Rowan County, the 104th county in order of formation, is located in the mountains of northeastern Kentucky. Rowan County was formed from sections of Fleming and Morgan counties on May 1, 1856. The county was named for John ROWAN, who represented Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives (1807-09) and the U.S. Senate (1825-31). The county seat is MOREHEAD, the largest city in the county.
