Granite Hill County was created on 1893 and was formed from Deer Lodge County, Missoula County. The county was named for Granite Peak. The county seat is Philipsburg.
Granite County is bordered by Missoula County (north), Powell County (east), Deer Lodge County (south), Ravalli County (west).
